OVERVIEW

At Destino Salamanca, we are not just offering a Study abroad program,

we are inviting students to visit our home.

Destino Salamanca is a two-week intensive language program that offers Pomfret students a total immersion experience with 4 hours of daily language instruction, home stays with Spanish families, daily cultural activities and weekend trips to Avila and Segovia. We will guide a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 14 students to maintain intimacy and ensure that each student is able to truly appreciate the Spanish culture, history, art, cuisine and language.

* Students must have successfully completed at least Spanish 2 to be eligible for our program.

itinerary

We will meet the students at the Madrid-Barajas airport (MAD) on the morning of Sunday, June 8th, between 7:00 am and 11:00 am.

On our way from Madrid to Salamanca, we will stop for lunch in Ávila, one of the 15 Spanish cities recognized as a World Heritage site by the UNESCO. After lunch we will continue on to Salamanca where students will meet their host families, rest and have dinner at “home”. Classes will begin the following day. (See schedule below.)

Classes will be held from 10 am to 2 pm Monday through Friday. Students will go home to share lunch with their host families at the Spanish customary lunchtime of 2:30 pm, After enjoying a cultural classic “siesta”, students will meet up again for afternoon activities 5 pm.

There is so much to explore in Salamanca! Activities include visits to museums, cathedrals, Roman architectural and archeologic sites, flamenco lessons, a cooking class…every day will be a new adventure.

At 7 pm we will meet as a group to debrief on the day and to allow students some supervised free time for shopping or enjoying a snack in one of Salamanca’s numerous, lovely plazas. Everyone will return home each evening for dinner with their host family, traditionally around 9 pm.

On the first full weekend, we will be taking two day trips to explore several of the adorable, small towns in the mountains outside of Salamanca. After the last class on Friday, June 20th we will return to Madrid and spend our last afternoon together touring Spain’s capital city. On Saturday, June 21st we will shuttle students to the airport in time for their flights and no later than 11 am.

“Traveling to Salamanca and having the opportunity to learn and live as the Spanish do was incredible. I grew a lot linguistically and connected even more with my peers! I loved this experience!”
